Downtime

Just a quick message for anyone who has tried to access the site over the last week. We had a hosting issue which has now been resolved. There shouldn’t be any foreseeable problems in the future. Apologies for any inconvenience. May I also take this opportunity to apologise for the lack of Facebook updates we have been giving. This is due to other commitments but we are looking at running it alongside our blog from september on a permanent basis so stay tuned!

Just to update you on goings on around the school. The science department is being painted to give it a fresh look and a few other rooms are getting cosmetic improvements as well. The school network is undergoing a major overhaul as well to make it quicker for our students so they have something to look forward to when they come back. More space, more functions and less waiting! (hopefully)

That’s all for now. Just a quick reminder that staff are due back on the 3rd September but pupils are not back until Monday 6th September. Please dont send your children in on the 3rd as they will be turned away. Thank You

Bensham Sports News

Bensham Manor’s cross country runners shone in the sunshine at the
Surrey Special Schools Spring Cross Country event on April 28th. The
event was held on a tricky, winding course around the picturesque
grounds of St Nicholas school in Merstham.

In the Under 14 boys event, Gideon Boyfar and Ismail Sinclair
contested an exciting sprint finish and took the gold (Gideon) and
silver (Ismail)  ahead of 52 other boys from all over the County.
Strong finishing by Charlie Bond-Benstead and Jamie Reynolds meant
that Bensham Manor also snatched the silver medal in the boys team
event.

Not be outdone, Bensham’s Girls team of Kate Burtenshaw, Grace
Imogehemi, Nicole Thomas and Lyndsay Green performed strongly to win
silver in both the Under 14 and Under 16 events. Special mention must
be made of Kate’s performance, where she showed true grit and
determination to gain the individual silver in the under-16 event
ahead of many older Girls.

Arguably the most impressive performance of the day came in the
Under-16 boys event. Dwayne Williams  ran a beautifully judged race
where, after a steady start in the crowded field of 67 boys, he moved
into the lead at halfway. Dwayne maintained this lead over the second
half the course until the final 100 metres where he was briefly
overtaken by a rival from Woodfield School.  Dwayne dug deep however
and with great spirit, timed his final sprint perfectly in order to
retake the lead just before the finish line and win a thoroughly
deserved Gold!!

Pictures to follow.

Sport Relief 2010

Today Bensham Pupils and Staff took part in Sport Relief 2010. The pupils were allowed to wear whatever they wanted, with many wearing the red colour associated with the day. The afternoon saw a lot of activites take place for fun but one of the Sport relief challenges for this year was to wear a Rivals Shirt. Most people refused to do it, citing that it would be too much to wear the colours of someone elses team. However, there was always going to be one who took the challenge. Our Head of P.E Robin Barwick, A notorious Fulham Fan, swallowed his pride and his loyalty and donned a Chelsea shirt. (Booo!!!)

Our Site Manager Marc however, decided to show his true loyalty and that Jake, Our School Dog should do that as well. Here they are with Maria, another Crystal Palace Supporter.
