What are Pupils Taught?
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum with high quality accredited learning activities and experiences which are personalised to meet the individual needs of our pupils. Progress made by each pupil is carefully monitored and is used to inform future teaching and learning. In addition some pupils participate in individual or small reading groups (with qualified therapists) speech and language groups to support the development of specific skills which are acting as a barrier to learning and personal development.

How are your children supported?
Every class group is taught by specialist teachers, who plan and deliver units of work with differentiated objectives which are assessed throughout the year. Continuity is maintained by teaching assistants (TAs) who are generally assigned to a class group and move from one lesson to the next with the students. Every pupil has a Tutor and dedicated TA who supports pastoral care. These staff are a first point of contact for parents and carers. Individual Education Plans (IEPs) focus on core subjects and personal and social development. IEPs are updated twice a year and sent home. There is an annual subject report which forms the basis for the Annual Review meeting. All students have a statement of Special Educational Needs which is reviewed annually. This is when professionals, parents/carers and pupils agree on specific learning objectives. The targets set at the Annual Review provide the learning priorities for the next twelve months and are incorporated across all curriculum areas. We have an Attendance Officer whose role is to support pupils and their families who may be affected by particular issues which impact on an individual’s attendance. Two school counsellors provide individual and group support, guidance and advice to pupils and their families where appropriate and requested.

What Facilites do we have?
We have excellent facilities which include subject based classrooms, specialist art, food, music , textile and design rooms, a gymnasium, two school halls, two science labs, three ICT suites, a school allotment, a sensory room, an adventure playground and a multi – purpose games area.

Do we offer practical activities?
Pupils are able to develop practical skills in areas such as food technology, horticulture, outdoor activities, design and technology, art and pottery. Senior Pupils attend Link courses at local colleges. Great emphasis is placed upon pupils being involved in the community by visiting local shops and places of interest. By interacting and making transactions in order to develop their independence skills.

Do we offer work experience?
All pupils have the opportunity to engage in work related learning within their local community and further afield. This is tailored to individual interests with years 8 and 9 enabling an introduction into the world of team work (e.g. Forest School). Building upon this, in year 10 pupils complete a week of work related learning. Year 11 have a two week placement.
